Eugene H. (Gene) Kummel, former chairman, president and CEO of IPG's McCann Erickson Worldwide, died on Saturday. He was 88.
He began his career in the advertising business after World War
II, joining Warner-Lambert in brand management. Two years later, he joined an agency which was to become Norman Craig & Kummel, where he was a principal and executive vice president.
In 1965
he joined McCann, initially as head of McCann Erickson's international operations, becoming chairman and CEO of McCann Erickson Worldwide in 1973. In 1987, he was named chairman emeritus of McCann
Erickson Worldwide.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Temple Emanu-el on 65th Street and Fifth Avenue in New York City.
