Mag Bag: 'Astonish' Aims To Astonish

Mag-Bag-Astonish

The fashion category is getting a new voice, Astonish magazine, which founder and publisher Ryan Chua hopes will shake things up with arresting visuals and unorthodox editorial content. The quarterly, set to launch this fall, promises to put the spotlight on emerging artists, including photographers, stylists, fashion designers, models and their collaborators, with each issue defined by a theme.

The first issue will address the always-relevant topics of "Love Lust Desire." Artists are invited to submit work on each issue's theme. The pub will also deliver insightful social commentary and interviews with industry professionals.

In addition to a high-end print magazine, Astonish is billed as a multimedia platform with an interactive ethos that encourages reader dialogue. The digital version of the magazine, which launched before the print version, has already attracted readers in 30 countries; Chua hopes to reach 50,000 more readers through the print magazine. The online presence includes feature videos, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and images not found in the print magazine, as well as an online community.
