Subaru Primal Quest Race To Appear on CBS in January

  • May 7, 2003
The Subaru Primal Quest today announced that its second-annual race will be broadcast nationwide on CBS in January, 2004. Expedition adventure racing, commonly regarded to be the fastest growing outdoor sport in the nation, has never before been telecast on a broadcast network. The weekend broadcast, slated to air immediately following the network's NFL coverage, will be the highest-profile appearance of the young sport since its inception in 1989. Adventure racing, beginning with races like the Raid Gauloises and brought to popularity by the Eco-Challenge, is a co-ed team sport. Teams of four men and women will come to the Lake Tahoe area in September of 2003 for the grueling Subaru Primal Quest. The challenges they face are almost unimaginably daunting, even in the era of reality television. Over the span of six to ten days, the athletes will race together night and day over 400 miles of running, biking, lake paddling, white-water paddling, caving and rock climbing. The race is a non-stop 24-hour endurance event; the lead teams are expected to log no more than two hours of sleep per night during the entire race. The broadcast partnership is an important development for the Subaru Primal Quest, which in its inaugural year in 2002 became one of the sport's premier events, largely due to its American location and its prize purse of $250,000.
