TiVo announced a new entry-level service called TiVo Basic that will provide consumer electronics makers the opportunity to include an entry-level DVR with combined DVD/DVR equipment. TiVo Basic will only be packaged with integrated consumer electronics products made by licensees. Licensees will set pricing of their products based on the combined value of the TiVo Basic service and other features offered in the product. All of the Basic services will have the ability to upgrade to the full TiVo service for $12.95/month or a $299 product lifetime subscription fee. A consumer can take advantage of a built-in trial of the TiVo service and upgrade at any time as well as purchase the new home networking package from TiVo. TiVo Basic will have limited DVR functionality such as pausing live TV, recording from guide, manual repeat recording by time and date and three days of program guide data. What won't be included are the SeasonPass, WishList and Search by Title features.
