Walmart Neighborhood Market Hits The Northeast

Walmart Neighborhood Market now wants to make its debut in the Northeast with a store in Somerville, Mass. Grocery prices in the Northeast run more than 3% above the national average, and rose nearly 6% over the past year, according to the U.S. Labor Department.

 

The effort is part of the Arkansas retailer’s plan to open more than 150 grocery stores across the country by late 2013, undercutting competitors’ prices. Critics said the world's largest chain hurts local business and competition.
