  • February 27, 2003
MLB Advanced Media, L.P., the interactive arm of Major League Baseball, announced yesterday that it will stream live audio of about 400 Spring Training games, free on MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball. The unprecedented number of Spring Training audio streams will begin today with 10 games starting with three Grapefruit League contests at 1:05 p.m. ET; the Baltimore Orioles vs. Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers vs. LA Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies vs. Pittsburgh Pirates. The games can be accessed through the Gameday Audio section of MLB.com. The full schedule of Spring Training audio streams can be found on MLB.com. These games will be offered free during Spring Training, before becoming a subscription service for the regular season as it has been since 2001. During the regular season, fans can choose to listen to the home or away feed of all the games, as well as the foreign language feed, if one is available. Last season, approximately 1 million subscribers at MLB.com and at RealNetworks, Inc., MLB.com's streaming partner, subscribed to the regular season service.
