Despite record results for 2011, HanesBrands says sales came in below expectations for its fiscal fourth quarter, with net sales decreasing slightly to $1.15 billion, “affected by an
unexpected and substantial slowing of orders in December.” Socks and men’s underwear continued to be in demand, with “strong single-digit percentage increases,” partially
offset by declines in intimate apparel. The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based company, which owns such brands as Champion, WonderBra, and Bali, says that for the coming year, it expects its core
categories to deliver solid results, with net sales expected to gain 2 and 4%.
