The number of public “hotspots” across Britain is soaring — up from 25,000 in 2009 to over 175,000, according to analysts at Informa — as businesses and local councils rush
to offer people easy access to the internet via a wireless broadband connection, rather than mobile. Informa reckons the number of public hotspots could increase fivefold by 2015 — and there are
millions more private hotspots in offices and homes. Telecom and mobile firms are competing to meet this growing demand, with new deals unveiled every day.
