Michael Browner is stepping down as executive director-media and marketing operations at General Motors. Browner, who presided over the massive consolidation of GM's media services that resulted in
the creation of GM Mediaworks and GM Planworks, reportedly is taking an early retirement package from GM and will join American Media, publisher of
The Star and
National Enquirer, as a
consultant. Betsy Lazar, director of media operations, succeeds Browner as GM's top media executive.
