Twitter: Olympics Inspired 150 Million-Plus Tweets

Telegraph.co.uk reports that over the course of the Games, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt attracted the most discussion; mostly due to his unprecedented defence of his 100m and 200m medals. Bolt’s 200m win generated more than 80,000 tweets per minute compared to his 100m win, which gathered around 74,000 tweets per minute. In terms of Team GB athletes, Andy Murray’s demolition of Tennis hero Roger Federer proved to be a highlight for Twitter users as it prompted the third biggest spike in tweets during the Games, peaking at 57,000 tweets per minute.
