Ofcom: Average Home Broadband Speed Up 20%

Britons now enjoy an average broadband speed of 9 Megabits-per-second, an 18% increase on the average of 7.6Mbps in November 2011, when Ofcom last surveyed the market. When Ofcom began monitoring broadband speeds, in late 2008, the average was 3.6Mbps. Ofcom found that in May 2012 68% of British home broadband users had services promising speeds of up to 10Mbps. In May 2011, fewer than half (48%) of people were using services that delivered those speeds. Eight per cent of home broadband connections were 'super-fast', Ofcom said.
