Bodyform, Rather Than Ignoring Blogger, Does Satire

  • Adweek, Wednesday, October 17, 2012 8 AM

U.K. maxipad maker Bodyform has responded in a big way to a blog rant from someone named Richard Neill. He posted a rant on Bodyform's Facebook wall, humorously calling out the brand for false advertising—saying his girlfriend doesn't have happy periods like those depicted in the ads, but instead becomes "the little girl from the exorcist with added venom and extra 360 degree head spin." The post has gotten more than 84,000 likes. So Bodyform decided to play (the video is at the jump).  The company pretends to confess that it has been lying pathologically . An actress playing the company's CEO Caroline Williams pours herself a glass of blue water (a metaphor for water?) and says, "I think it's time we came clean," she says. "We lied to you, Richard, and I want to say sorry. … Sorry." She goes on to explain the imagery in its ads as a way not to show "the blood coursing from our uteri like a crimson landslide." She even farts, and says, "Sorry Richard. We do that too."
