Crain Communications Inc., parent of Advertising Age, has purchased
American Demographics magazine from Primedia, with the intention of shutting down the magazine as a stand-alone title.
Instead, the publisher plans to fold the title's coverage of consumer demographic data into a regular feature of
Ad Age and AdAge.com.
American Demographics, which has been around since
1979, was estimated by some to be worth roughly $2 million. While respected editorially, the title had long struggled with advertising revenue. In August, Primedia sold its majority stake in
trade publications Folio and Circulation Management.
