The National Archives has defended the practice of government officials holding multiple official email accounts and the using personal accounts in some situations, but the organization requires that
officials use their business email addresses for official business correspondence in order that the records can be kept accurately.
The organization asserted the position this week as part
of the
House Oversight Committee hearing in which Republicans are accusing former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P.
Jackson of misconduct for using a personal email address with an alias to conduct official business. Jackson has defended the practice claiming that she received millions of emails a year
