It’s true, you totally can: just ask Gemini Smith, a 23-year-old British woman from Northumberland who raised £4,450 -- that’s about $7,500 -- to pay for her breast enhancement surgery using a U.S.-based social network designed for just this purpose, MyFreeImplants.com.
On MyFreeImplants.com, women can create profiles where they share photos of themselves and set forth their reasons for wanting implants. Male users then buy “chat credits” to talk to women who are asking for money via messaging and webcams, contributing to their surgery funds. Smith tells Brit tabloid The Mirror that it took about three months to raise the money for her breast augmentation last year; through the benevolence of strangers, she went from a 34A to a 34DD.
Of course there is huge potential for creepiness -- I mean, the whole concept is pretty darn creepy -- and another story in The Daily Mail reports that male users (oh so predictably) asked women for revealing photos or pornographic videos. The Web site’s front page certainly does nothing to dispel this notion: among other things, there’s an image of a guy in a suit with women hanging on him adoringly, looking rather pleased with himself.
But The Mirror quotes Smith as saying, “I didn't do anything I didn't want to for money; I just said if you are going to help me and talk to me then it is because you like me for me, not for what I can do.” In fact, she says she made lasting friendships via MyFreeImplants.com. Currently the network claims to be generating eight million page views per month.
Internet provides many ways to raise money and smart people take all benefits of it. It takes time and certain skills but it is still better than taking a loan even with such tempting conditions like at Personal Money Service.
