Just when McDonald’s had audiences laughing with its light-hearted “Lovin’ It,” a rebranding effort that’s given us archenemies that range from Wile E. Coyote and The
Road Runner to Democrats and Republicans, it’s going for good old-fashioned Budweiser heartstrings. “Signs,” which broke during NFL play-off games, is set to a touching version of
Fun’s “Carry On,” and shows a collage of McDonald’s signboards, ranging from spiritual (“God protect the U.S.A”) to activist (“Keep jobs in Toledo”) to
ordinary (“Hug those dads” and “It’s a girl.”) See it here. The Leo Burnett-created spot takes an
extra step, inviting viewers to see the stories behind the signs on its Tumblr page.
