In the wake of hackers seizing the social media accounts of U.S. Central Command, Buzzfeed explains why the breach was only a matter of time. Regarding the roughly 5,000 social media accounts operated
by the federal government, it writes: “The security for these accounts is operated by employees from disparate agencies that essentially run them as they see fit.” What’s more,
“There is no government-wide requirement that users use two-step verification to protect their accounts.”
