The federal government will not require federal agencies including the FBI to get a warrant in order to access the older emails of consumers when conducting investigations. Despite a popular push
from citizens to update the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) which does not require a warrant to access emails that were older than six months old, the White
House responded that they are not going to "endorse a single ECPA-reform bill at this time."
