Neil Patrick Harris Returns For Heineken Light

After two successful years of ads for Heineken Light, Neil Patrick Harris is back for a third round.

Two new TV commercials and four digital videos play on the tongue-in-cheek premise already established in previous spots: Harris is more than a bit prone to exaggeration. 

In the first spot, making its broadcast debut on May 16, a representative who’s ostentatiously labeled “lawyer” stands next to the actor. (An asterisked footnote at the frame’s bottom states: “Not a real lawyer.”) 

After Harris declares that Heineken Light “lets you control people’s minds,” she deadpans: “It doesn’t do that.” But when he states that “award-winning Heineken Light is the best light beer you’ve ever tasted,” she confirms, “That’s true.”

The new creative is from Publicis Worldwide, which released its first work as AOR for the brand in March, with a St. Patrick’s Day spot featuring Harris arguing with a leprechaun.

All of the new work (including the leprechaun ad) puts Harris in scenarios where he goes up against authority figures, who nevertheless ultimately admit that Heineken Light is “The Best-Tasting Light Beer.”

The taste claim is based on the brand’s having been the gold medal winner at the 2015 European Beer Star Awards and “Best Tasting Low Calorie Lager” at the 2013 and 2014 World Beer Championships.

The brand is also sporting a new packaging design, including a new white-and-silver can that will be seen in the digital videos debuting this summer.
