Initiative's Elms Takes New Interpublic Role, Baxter Succeeds Him As CEO

IPG Mediabrands has once again restructured its Initiative media services division, naming Mat Baxter global CEO, replacing Jim Elms who becomes Chairman of Initiative as well as taking on the new role of managing director of patent company Interpublic.

In a statement announcing the new structure, Interpublic said Elms will be part of an effort to “drive increased collaboration between IPG Mediabrands and the broader network of Interpublic agencies.”

In his new role, Elms reports to IPG Mediabrands global CEO for his Initiative role and to Philippe Krakowsky, Chief Strategy and Talent Officer of IPG and Chairman of IPG Mediabrands, in his IPG role.

In September 2015, Baxter was named Global Chief Strategy and Creative Officer, IPG Mediabrands from CEO of its UM Australia unit.

IPG did not indicate whether the Global Chief Strategy and Creative Officer role would be filled.
