Although Turner did not engage in any grand gestures, such as saying he would donate $1 billion to the AAF, he did thank the organization for helping promote people such as himself. In talking about the importance of visuals, Turner recalled the first Persian Gulf War, noting that he would flip around to other news broadcasts and saw only talking heads. Then he would turn on CNN, "And you saw the war, not the anchors."
Lastly, David Verklin, CEO of Aegis Group's Carat NA, who served as the master of ceremonies, also implored the assembled to use the organization's new Web site, which was inaugurated Tuesday as well. The Web site, www.advertisinghalloffame.org, offers biographical information and archival materials regarding its 170 members.
