Meta has acquired Swedish AI startup Stilla.ai, with plans to integrate the company’s team and technology with the goal of further developing the tech giant’s agentic
business offerings, according to Axios.
Initially
launched in June, Meta’s Business Agent allows brands to automate their responses to customers within the direct-messaging hubs across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.
Meta’s Business Agent is now used by over one million businesses, per the company.
The agent marks Meta’s attempt to diversify its revenue from
advertising by attempting to sell “Meta One”
subscriptions, various tiered plans for businesses and creators using Meta AI.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes that as the company’s
models advance, businesses will be able to use AI agents to help run their “whole business,” according to remarks Zuckerberg made during the launch of the Business Agent.
The acquisition is Meta’s most recent attempt to accelerate the commercialization of its agentic offerings, which are costing the company billions.
In developing its AI agent system across its apps and products, Meta reported a 91% drop year-over-year in free cash flow in its Q2 2026 earnings.
As competition with
OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google intensifies, Meta is looking to capture merchant adoption by delivering a tool that can boost customer conversions in the messaging space.
Stilla.ai is a relatively small company. Founded in 2024, the startup raised $5 million in pre-seed funding. By
acquiring Stilla.ai, Meta intends to expand its influence in Sweden, according to Axios.
