The Clinton campaign brought in a hefty total dollar amount in August for the campaign and the Democratic party, announcing a record-setting $143 million for the month.
It was a solid end to a difficult month for Clinton, in which her lead over Trump has been diminishing, and questions over her email server and a cushy relationship between the Clinton
Foundation and State Department made headlines.
FiveThirtyEight’s Now Cast, which predicts the outcome of the presidential election were it to be held on any
particular day prior to November 8, had Trump’s chance as low as 3.6% on August 8.
Trump’s odds of winning according to this measure have drastically improved since then.
If the election had been held yesterday on September 1, Trump would have had a much stronger 24.4% chance.
The odds are certain to vary wildly following the first debate on September
26 at Hofstra University.
In the meantime, Clinton has about $68 million on hand, with 66 days left until the election. Her team will continue to fundraise and deploy those
funds in a sophisticated manner.
As Clinton’s campaign manager Robby Mook wrote in a statement: “Thanks to the 2.3 million people who have contributed to our campaign, we
are heading into the final two months of the race with the resources we need to organize and mobilize millions of voters across the country.”
“These resources will help
us to register and turnout million of voters to elect progressive candidate across the county,” he added.
Trump has yet to release the results of his fundraising efforts for
August.
