'Shut Up' Media: Business Is Growing, News Organizations Are Hiring

I’m sorry to report the media isn’t shutting up. Instead, it is doing perhaps more journalistic work. Not only that but news organizations are making money and, in keeping with a Trump Administration goal -- creating jobs for people in the U.S.

Opposition Party?

Well, CNN is going in the opposite direction from the suggestion made by Trump Administration chief strategist Steve Bannon: Hiring more journalists for an investigative unit.  In December, The Washington Post also said it would be hiring more journalists.

Here might be a clue why: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

What isn’t here?

Any mention of fake news and information, repeated lying, or how to combat erroneous news quickly once information is disseminated into U.S. citizens screen-minded minds. Freedom of factual and/or fake speech? Sure seems so.

A blizzard of lies or misinformation, near misinformation -- or “alternative” facts” -- seems to be coming, we are told. (Wondering if anyone issued a correction about this last point? Corrections/clarifications are something the real media actually does.)

Can U.S. consumers keep pace with all of it -- especially back-tracking days or weeks about something that is false? It's nice the new Trump Administration looks to treat them fairly.

Back to business -- and jobs, something which seems important to the Trump Administration. Big marketers are still spending on TV news advertising: TV, print and otherwise.

Some examples: Since Donald Trump was elected president, Fox News Channel has pulled in $260.8 million in national TV advertising; CNN, $180.1 million in national TV advertising; and MSNBC, $49.8 million, according to iSpot.tv.  That’s some good business, no?

What if CNN, The New York Times, Fox News Channel, The Washington Post, or MSNBC mull the idea of being more profitable, and started eliminating journalism jobs, sending them.... to Mexico to “build” news stories?

Would the Trump Administration intercede -- as with some automotive or air-conditioning manufacturing companies -- in bringing journalism jobs back to the U.S.?  Sure hope so.
