Google is looking into a bug affecting Android Oreo users on Gmail, following complaints in its product forum that Oreo is failing to sync with the Gmail app, reports state.   

The company is expected to fix the problem within a week, probably as a “server side change to the Gmail app and not as a separate update,” Droidmen reports. Meanwhile, Android experts are buzzing about the problem affecting the latest version of Android.  

According to Droidmen, users see that the Gmail app is syncing. But it is not syncing, and new emails are not turning up. In addition, the Gmail app runs “all the time,” Droidmen continues. 

Another source, Android Police, agrees: “Gmail keeps running in the background, trying to sync, but failing.” It adds that when they open the app to check their email, "the app shows it's syncing but no mails load." 

The problem has been reported in social media and on Google product forums. But no resolution was immediately forthcoming, the reports state.

“On the product forums, Google reps advised the users to restart their phones, re-install the app and even to factory reset their devices,” Droidmen writes. “However nothing seems to be working as the bug continues to affect exchange users on the app.”

Android Police reports that Google’s “ever-present Orrin community manager has posted on both threads to say he's reaching out to everyone affected to ask for bug reports.”
