'Time' Names Edward Felsenthal EIC

Time Inc. has named Edward Felsenthal editor-in-chief of Time, just days after Nancy Gibbs stepped down from the role Tuesday, following her 32 years at the helm.

Felsenthal, who has served as Time’s digital editor since 2013, is the 18th editor to lead the title since it was founded in 1923.

Felsenthal was responsible for expanding the Time brand by creating an integrated 24/7 news and video operation. He oversaw the launch of several verticals and digital franchises, such as Motto, a site for millennial women, and Time Inc.’s virtual reality hub, Life VR.

In 2016, he added the role of digital director of Time Inc.’s News and Lifestyle groups, leading content and growth across more than a dozen brands, including Time, Fortune, Money, Health, Southern Living, Travel + Leisure and Food & Wine.

Alan Murray, Time Inc. Chief Content Officer, stated Felsenthal had the "perfect skills and experience" to lead Time into its next era. He touted his ability to provide storytelling "to audiences on whatever platform they choose."

Before joining Time Inc., Felsenthal helped launch The Daily Beast in 2008 as its founding executive editor. He also served as a reporter and editor at The Wall Street Journal for 15 years.

Felsenthal isn’t the only new editor tapped to lead a big publication.

Earlier this week, Robbie Myers, the longtime editor of fashion and lifestyle magazine Elle, announced she is leaving after 17 years at the helm. Publisher Hearst announced she will be succeeded by Nina Garcia, formerly the creative director at Marie Claire.
