The Washington Post announced yesterday the
Boston Globe will join Arc Publishing, the
Post's digital publishing platform.
Boston Globe president Vinay
Mehra calls the new affiliation “a critical step in the Globe’s overall transformation strategy.”
Arc will work with the Boston Globe to relaunch its
website, providing “a renewed focus on site speed and driving engagement,” according to Mehra.
The publication also plans to use Arc tools to streamline its newsroom workflow --
which includes story authoring, video production and photo management -- and extend its mobile presence.
Arc, which launched in 2014, signed Bonnier Corp’s stable of titles, including Popular Science
and Saveur, earlier this year.
Arc’s hosting capabilities are handled by Amazon Web Services (also owned by Jeff Bezos, who bought the Washington Post in 2013). The
company charges between $10,000 a month for small publishers and $150,000 per month for large outlets, to consolidate their digital output, freeing them up to focus on areas like audience
engagement, per a 2017 article in Fortune.
