Idaho officials ignored or discarded email invitations from the White House, thinking they were spam, according to the Associated Press.

The invites went to 132 county commissions and 105 state legislators in the state.

It is not clear why officials saw the invitations as spam — or unsolicited emails. But some deleted the messages, thinking they did not look official.

They realized they were wrong when they were called by telephone to confirm their acceptance.

The invitations, asking politicos to meet with senior White House officials, were part of the Trump administration's “state days” initiative, Politico reported. 

Some recipients were disappointed because they inferred from the invitation they would not be meeting with President Trump.
