Google Assistant Tuned To Provide Good News

Google has just fine-tuned its digital assistant to provide good news.

The new experimental feature is called Tell Me Something Good, which is also the phrase to use to get some positive information from Google Assistant on Google Home or an Android phone.

The news stories available to Assistant users in the U.S. come from a range of media outlets, curated and summarized by the non-profit Solutions Journalism Network, which provides a brief news summary about people who are solving problems. One example provided in the announcement is news about how backyard beekeepers in Detroit are brining back the dwindling bee population while boosting the local economy.

“’Tell me something good’ isn’t meant to be a magic solution,” stated Ryan Burke, creative producer, creative lab at Google in a blog post. “But it’s an experiment worth trying because it’s good info about good work that may bring some good to your day. Give it a go yourself on any Assistant-enabled device, including your phone, smart display, or Google Home.”
