Report: FDA To Announce Rx Ad Probe

The Food and Drug Administration plans to launch a major review of prescription drug advertising aimed at consumers, reports The Wall Street Journal. The paper said the review could be announced as soon as today. The so-called direct-to-consumer drug category has been one of the fastest growing ad sectors, especially since 1997 when the FDA relaxed rules allowing prescription drugs to be advertised on television.
