New EICs At 'Travel + Leisure,' 'Sunset,' Conde Nast Names Chief Communications Officer

Following former editor in chief Nathan Lump’s departure last month, Travel + Leisure has named the brand’s travel director Jacqueline Gifford the outlet’s new top editor. Gifford joined the Travel + Leisure staff in 2013 and has held various positions during her tenure.

Travel + Leisure reaches more than 16 million readers internationally and holds a 55% advertising market share in its category. It has grown its site traffic by 400% during the last four years alone. 

“Travel changes and shapes people in immeasurable ways, and it is a topic that is taking center stage right now in our culture:” Gifford stated. She is enthusiastic about building the brand’s audience cross-platform.

Prior to joining Travel + Leisure, Gifford held positions at BridesOK! and Vanity Fair.

Former Time Inc. title Sunset has also tapped a new editor in chief, naming award-winning multimedia journalist and entrepreneur Matt Bean to lead the publication effective immediately.

Bean was a  former editor in chief of Men’s Health and Entertainment Weekly and was in charge of digital oversight at Sports Illustrated prior to his new position. He has also been a regular contributor to the “Today Show” and “Good Morning America.”

Bean was also the founding editor of The Foundry, Time Inc.’s Brooklyn offices, where he worked with staff to launch new brands and creative approaches to content monetization.

Michael Reinstein, Chairman of Regent, LP and Sunset stated of Bean’s hire, that his cross-platform experience, digital and TV work made him “the perfect leader to take the Sunset brand to the next level."

In his new role at the 120-year-old Sunset, Bean will oversee the magazine, website and brand extensions. 

Separately, Conde Nast named Joseph Libonati its new Chief Communications Officer for the company. Libonati, who previously held the position of senior vice president, corporate communications, will expand that role to oversee all internal and external communication strategies at Conde Nast. 

Libonati has been with Conde Nast since 2013. Prior to his role with Conde Nast, Libonati worked at Rubenstein Communications, where he served as senior vice president, Principal Communications Group, PMK, NBCUniversal and ID/PR.
