Meredith Lets Go Of 60 Magazine Staffers, 'Traditional Home' Ends Bimonthly Run

Meredith Corp. let go of about 60 employees in its magazine division last week, with about half of those staff cuts coming from Entertainment Weekly and Traditional Home.

Entertainment Weekly announced last week it was transitioning to a monthly publication, but keeping Weekly in the name.

Traditional Home will no longer publish a bimonthly print magazine. Most of its staff was let go, including publisher Beth McDonough.

Editor-in-chief Jill Waage will remain at the publication.

As part of a larger restructuring following its acquisition of Time Inc. last year, Meredith halted the regular print publishing of Cooking Light and Coastal Living. The two brands now produce limited, newsstand-only copies.

Traditional Home will adopt the same print model as those two food and home publications.

Despite Traditional Home's paid circulation of about 850,000, “advertiser interest is not sufficient to support the production and distribution costs” of the print magazine, Doug Olson, president of Meredith Magazines, told the New YorkPost.

Meredith also publishes Better Homes & Gardens, Southern Living, Real Simple and Martha Stewart Living in the home category.
