Expectations Differ On Arrival Of 5G Services

Business leaders are confident that commercial 5G service will become available, but there are differences in the expected timetable for deployment, according to a new survey.

While most (93%) business executives are confident that commercial 5G service is coming, the majority (64%) expect it will not be  starting until 2020, with 19% of those expecting it will be after 2022.

A smaller number (20%) expect it will launch by the end of this year, according to the survey of 420 business executives and managers involved in communications networks in the U.S., Europe and Asia Pacific conducted by Telecoms.

Ten percent say that commercial 5G service already is in their market.

Concerning the expectations of consumer spending on 5G services, nearly a third (31%) expect the average revenue per user would grow by more than 10%. Nearly a quarter did not believe consumers would pay more for 5G.

The majority (66%) of those surveyed said they do not think the benefits of 5G have been effectively communicated to consumers.
