MPA Promotes Brigitte Schmidt Gwyn To President, CEO

The MPA (The Association of Magazine Media) has promoted executive vice president of government affairs Brigitte Schmidt Gwyn to president-CEO.

The trade organization officially opened its new headquarters in Washington, D.C. yesterday.

MPA was based out of New York City for 100 years. It announced in July it would move to D.C. to be closer to the country's lawmakers and federal agencies.

At the time, MPA said Gwyn would lead the D.C. office, but did not give her a new title.

The organization planned to cut 10 full-time and two part-time workers in New York ahead of the move.

MPA lobbies on advertising regulations, U.S. postal operations, taxes, consumer privacy and protection of intellectual property and environmental policy issues.

Gwyn succeeds Linda Thomas Brooks, who joined the MPA in January 2016.

“Brigitte brings the policy and leadership experience needed to guide MPA as its members increase engagement with policymakers on issues affecting their businesses and consumers,” Tom Harty, president-EO of Meredith Corp. and chairman of the board of MPA, told the New York Post, which first reported the news.

Gwyn has held past government affairs jobs with Accenture and the Kellogg Company.

MPA represents a number of magazine companies, including Hearst Magazines, Condé Nast, Meredith and Bonnier.
