Alphabet Company Launches Internet Connectivity Balloons

Loon, an Alphabet company, received approval to operate its internet balloons in the stratosphere above Kenya.

Airborne balloons are being dispatched and new balloons will be launched from the U.S., then will be navigated to Kenya.

Once the balloons arrive in Kenya, Loon will conduct the final states of network integration testing with Telkom Kenya, according to the company.

After testing, internet service is set to be provided to Kenyans.

“Given the global situation with COVID-19, we’re working as fast as we can to deploy the Loon service in Kenya to help in the short term, and establish sustainable operations that will continue to serve Kenyans for the long-term,” stated Alastair Westgarth, CEO of Loon, in a blog post.
