Office Depot's parent, ODP Corp., rejected a takeover bid from rival Staples and suggested other kinds of deals instead, "with one option being selling ODP’s retail and consumer-facing
e-commerce operations to Staples, or a joint venture," according to
Chain Store Age. Such a deal “could be executed more efficiently and with far greater certainty and less regulatory
risk than" a takeover, according to the ODP chairman.
