Eldercare Startup SilverAssist Makes Fourth Acquisition

The brand new senior-care B2B media company SilverAssist last week announced the acquisition of AidandAttendance.com, a Veterans Administration benefits eligibility and web-based application service. The move, coming just days after the formation of the company, is the fourth acquisition for the company, effectively strengthening its foothold in the eldercare space.

SilverAssist is backed by the middle-market private-equity firm Growth Catalyst Partners.

The startup got off the ground with three acquisitions announced earlier this month:  Elderlife Financial Services, a service that helps identify the best ways to pay for senior living; Care Changes, a service helping families find senior communities and customized care; and FamilyAssets, an information platform that provides education, resources and community listings matching families with senior-living options.

Through these foundation assets, SilverAssist obtained more than 150 corporate community relationships, spanning 7,000 communities.

Last week’s acquisition, Aidandattendance.com, is a software product that simplifies the complex veteran’s application process, enabling families to seamlessly apply and secure additional income often months ahead of applying on their own.

In 2021, the Department of Veterans Affairs estimated that only 189,800 wartime Veterans and 139,800 surviving spouses were using this pension. To put that number into perspective, in 2018 the Census Bureau estimated there were 1.8 million veterans from the Korean War and WWII alone, leaving out masses of eligible veterans of Vietnam and the gulf wars, not to the merchant marine

AidandAttendance.com President Emily Schwarz said she’s passionate about educating veterans, spouses and their families on the VA’s Aid and Attendance Pension. “The Aid and Attendance benefit application spans 30+ pages, plus supporting documents,” Schwarz said. “A simple mistake can mean months of delays and extreme financial burdens placed on families. We built a platform that enables people to easily apply by cross-checking answers and guiding them through the application. Our mission to simplify the process for veteran families fits perfectly into the SilverAssist portfolio, and we are excited to continue helping the senior community access the resources they need to pay for care.”

Added CEO Mason, “We uncovered an opportunity to weave VA benefits technology into our in-house financial solutions, and what AidandAttendance.com developed to assist a growing market of tech-savvy caregivers fits undeniably into our comprehensive product suite.”
