Yahoo! Adds Search Shortcuts

  • December 21, 2005
Yahoo! on Tuesday debuted Open Shortcuts beta--a new application and an extension of its Search Shortcuts, which is intended to simplify the search process. Through the use of custom keywords, Open Shortcuts enables users to navigate to Web sites, recall common searches on Yahoo!, and search favorite sites. Open Shortcuts can be activated from any Yahoo! Search box. Some examples of shortcuts include typing "!clist," which takes the user directly to Craigslist; typing "!wiki rosier," which searches Wikipedia for entries with "rosier"; and typing "!mail bill@yahoo.com" into any Yahoo! Search box, which launches the Yahoo! Mail application and begins an e-mail to bill@yahoo.com.
