'USA Today' Will Stream Its Sports Channel On Sling TV, Using An Ad-Supported Model

Gannett’s USA Today is increasing its video profile: it is now streaming its free Sports channel on SLING Free alongside its Streaming TV (FAST) channel, the free ad-supported channel that focuses on news, lifestyle and entertainment.

The ad-supported model hearkens back to traditional television: The only inconvenience to viewers, assuming they see it that way, is that they are served commercials.

Sports fans can stream USA Today Sports+Sports SeriouslyGolfweekMMA JunkieSpecial Delivery, docuseries like Beyond the Gridiron and Playing for A Way Out, and award shows such as the annual High School Sports Awards.

“We are thrilled to expand our relationship with SLING TV and share our award-winning sports content on their platform,” states Caroline Harris, Vice President of Digital Distribution at Gannett.

USA Today’s streaming channel also features editorial documentaries from the USA Today Network, franchise series produced by USA Today Studios and reporting from around the nation.

USA TODAY and USA Today Sports channels are available on multiple streaming platforms online, from smartphones, on TV, via  XUMO, The Roku Channel, Amazon News, Tubi, Samsung TV Plus and other channels.

In other Gannett news, it was announced that the firm is selling the Burlington Hawk Eye to Community Media Group, an Illinois-based chain of 41 publications that serve the Midwest and eastern U.S.

The Hawk Eye is unlikely to return to a daily publication schedule, but will continue serving the Burlington community, its new owners say.

In addition, as widely reported, Gannett is cutting 6% of its 3,400-person Gannett Media staff due to economic headwinds.
