JAF Communications Inc., publisher of The Messenger, a digital news startup that has not yet appeared, has acquired the Grid, a news site. Terms were not disclosed.

In addition, The Grid’s owner and principal investor,, Abu Dhabi-based IMI, will make a minority investment in JAF Communications. 

“Merging Grid’s brand and exceptional editorial and business team into The Messenger will significantly strengthen our position when we launch in May,” states Jimmy Finkelstein, chairman and CEO of The Messanger. 

The Grid, which was launched early in 2022, will be integrated into The Messenger prior to launch this May. 

IMI owns The National, CNN Business Arabic, Al and Ain News and has interests in Sky News Arabia and Euronews.  

Finkelstein added, “Although we will always be looking at news sites to acquire, there are very few brands that are of this high quality.”
