Jamila Robinson, an assistant managing editor for food and culture at The Philadelphia Inquirer, has been named editor-in-chief of Bon Appétit and Epicurious, effective Sept. 18, Condé Nast announced on Monday.
Robinson will steer editorial direction at Bon Appétit, a food magazine, and Epicurious, its culinary lifestyle website, reporting directly to Anna Wintour, chief content officer at Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue.
Most recently, Robinson served as assistant managing editor of food and culture at the Inquirer. Previously, she was food editor.
“Her approach to covering food is as social as it is sociological,” says Gabriel Escobar, editor and senior vice president of The Inquirer, The Inquirer reports. “It goes beyond recipe making and recipe tasting and has led to some of our [paper’s] most ambitious projects.”

Robinson also helped lead The Inquirer’s diversity, equity, and inclusion training programs. In addition, she was the lead editor of The Inquirer’s “Wildest Dreams: An Anthology of Black Inheritance,” an Emmy-winning multimedia project featuring the Inquirer’s Black journalists.
Prior to joining the Inquirer, Robinson worked at USA Today Network, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
“It’s not every day you get to meet an accomplished writer and editor who has led features departments and food organizations, is a competitive skater, classically trained violinist, teacher, world traveler, and is an absolute whiz in the kitchen,” Wintour says. “Jamila is all of these things and more and I’m thrilled she’s coming to lead Bon Appétit and Epicurious.”
