Poynter Institute Takes Over News Leader Association Journalism Awards

The journalism awards program formerly run by News Leaders Association (NLA) has been taken over by The Poynter Institute.

The awards will now be called The Poynter Journalism Awards as NLA winds down, Poynter says.

The 2024 contest will be open for entries in January. Winners will be named in April.

“Poynter is honored to be the new home of one of the most respected contests in journalism,” says Neil Brown, president of Poynter.” These awards have a rich history of recognizing excellence in writing and reporting, and we are excited to continue a tradition that showcases quality journalism that is serving democracy in vibrant and vital ways.”

The awards started as the American Society of Newspaper Editors Distinguished Writing Awards in 1979.
