Vox Staff Hit By New Round Of Layoffs

Vox Media has laid off 4% of its staff.

This follows a 7% staff reduction earlier this year.

The affected personnel worked in product, design, technology and advertising, and in Vox.com and The Dodo, according to published reports.

The Vox Media Union commented that ““Layoffs like these only deepen the instability and inequity that is rife within our industry, and make it harder for those of us who remain at Vox Media to do our jobs.”

The news broke as Conde Nast was laying off 5% of its staff.

That move was driven by digital advertising pressures, a decline in social media traffic and a move by the audience to short-form video, Chief Executive Roger Lynch told The New York Times.

Lynch added that Condé Nast’s video business would be folded in with the individual editorial brands.

Staffers from Vanity Fair, GQ and the New Yorker “lunched out” last week to protest the proposed layoffs, Variety adds.

In November, a group of 60 union members went to Conde Nast offices to protest the staff cuts.
