Graydon Carter Said To Be In Talks To Sell Air Mail

Graydon Carter’s premium newsletter product, Air Mail, may be acquired for $50 million according to Semafor.

The former Vanity Fair editor is in talks with Standard Industries for a deal that would keep him in place as a shareholder while early investors TPG and RedBird are selling out.

Standard Industries reportedly is an unglamorous family roofing business. However, the billionaire owners have money to spend and they were early investors in Air Mail and Puck.

The glossy, hip Air Mail was launched in 2019 by Carter, who was editor of Vanity Fair for 25 years.

In addition to covering beats from crime to fashion, Air Mail focuses on the arts and cultural happenings. It hasbilled itself as the “digital weekly that unfolds like the better weekend editions of your favorite newspapers.”

Air Mail has 300,000 paid subscribers and a luxury e-commerce business that produces around 15% of its revenue, the report states.

A standard subscription costs $79.99 per year and a premium membership, also billed as the Editor’s Circle, goes for $300 per annum.
