Sound Publishing, publisher of multiple newspapers in the Pacific Northwest, has new owners with the sale of its Canadian owner, Black Press Media, to Carpenter Media Group
and Canadian institutional investors Canso Investment Counsel and Deans Knight Capital Management.
The terms were not disclosed.
The
sale follows the restructuring of Black Press Media under Canadian creditor protection laws in British Columbia.
Sound Publishing publishes more than 40
newspapers in the state of Washington, including the Everett Herald and the Okanogan Valley-Gazette Tribune, plus three titles in Alaska and the Seattle
Weekly, an online news site.
Black Press Media publishes 150 daily and weekly newspapers in Canada and the U.S. It boasts of a print audience of more than 4.5 million
readers and total monthly readership of 19 million users, Seattle Weekly reports.
