'Reader's Digest UK' Is Closed, Couldn't Withstand Financial Pressures

Reader’s Digest UK has been shuttered. Its last issue is May.

“Unfortunately, the company just couldn’t withstand the financial pressures of today's unforgiving magazine publishing landscape and has ceased to trade,” writes Eva Mackevic, editor in chief of Reader’s Digest UK, on LinkedIn.

The closure follows that of the Canadian edition of Reader’s Digest last year.

Mackevic adds, “To any writers awaiting payment for their work, I’ve been assured that the insolvency practitioners are working to communicate with everyone about next steps.”

Reader’s Digest UK was sold by private equity firm Better Capital to media veteran Mike Luckwell in 2014, the Telegraph writes. The publication was started in 1938, following the U.S. title by 16 years.

The U.S. publication calls itself “A trusted friend in a complicated world.”
