Global Live Event TV Tops On-Demand, Non-Live Linear TV: Survey

Globally, live event programming is the preferred broadcast content for 40% of TV viewers around the world -- more popular than any other programming, according to research company Vitreous World.

 
Live event programming tops viewer preference for on-demand content via streaming services at 31%, and linear TV scheduled programming by TV stations and networks at 29%.  
 
Sports comprises 64% of consumers live event viewing; 54% for news content; and 40% for reality TV programming.
 
Looking at specific audience groups, live event broadcast content is the preferred choice of 58% of 18-24 year-olds; 31% for those 65 years and older.
 
Almost 20% of those who watch live broadcast events view it with another person at least once a day. Nearly 60% of those surveyed use social media and/or messaging platforms to talk to friends and family about key moments.
 
Over the next 12 months, 25% of consumers surveyed say they will primarily consume live broadcast events.
 
The survey came from consumers in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Germany, France and the Nordic countries, and is based on research commissioned by Nevion, a Sony Group Company, carried out by Vitreous World.
