Two layoffs have hit the media industry in widely
different areas.
In one, PBS has laid off 24 people and eliminated seven vacant positions, according to a memo sent to the staff by PBS president and CEO Paula Kerger,
according to E&P magazine.
And, an unknown number of workers were facing loss of their jobs as Lee Enterprises closes its Winston-Salem, North Carolina
printing plant, according to Triad Business Journal. The facility printed the Greensboro News & Record and the Winston-Salem Journal.
These will now be published in Virginia or Tennessee.
At PBS, Kerger wrote that the layoff decision, “while difficult, was deemed essential to ensure the
organization’s long-term sustainability and effectiveness.”
