'The Buffalo News' Skipped Print Issue On July 4

Some publishers are cutting down on the number of days they publish print newspapers during the week. But The Buffalo News, which is owned by Lee Enterprises, skipped July 4, apparently as part of a plan to forego certain holidays.

Lee Enterprises says the goal was to “allow our employees to enjoy the holiday with friends and families,” NPR reports.

However, the Buffalo Newspaper Guild claims this was strictly a cost-cutting move.

The Buffalo News also does not publish a print edition on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
