Subway Adds $6.99 Footlong Into Meal Deal Mania

It may not be a $5 meal deal, but it’s close.

Late last week, Subway announced it had joined the “unofficial” QSR meal deal club by offering its footlong subs for $6.99. The deal includes any of the chain’s 22 subs or custom orders, hot or cold, including premium newer and returning ingredients such as lavash-style flatbread, Sriracha, BBQ sauces, Cheddar Cheese sauce and SubKrunch, described by the brand as “a first-of-its-kind crunchy topping, created for those craving a flavor boost and finishing touch for any sandwich, wrap or salad.’

Subway previously launched several “snacks” priced under $5, like Footlong Dippers wraps at $4 such as the Double Cheese, Chicken and Cheese and the Peperoni and Cheese Dippers. The chain also added the $3 Footlong Auntie Anne’s Pretzel and $3 Footlong Churro, (unfortunately the Footlong Chocolate Chip Cookie is still $6) but this marks the first significant recent discount exclusively for online ordering on the footlong sandwich.

"Today's diner is stretched more than ever, and too often that means a tradeoff on quality, variety or flavor to find an affordable meal," said Doug Fry, president of Subway North America, explaining the rationale for the deal.

The brand has launched a large national advertising effort to support the launch, including network TV, of which one :30 can be seen here, created with Dentsu Aegis. The campaign is also supported by social media on Subway’s Facebook, YouTube and Instagram pages.

In order to get the deal, customers must order via the Subway App or on Subway.com.

But footlong lovers need to get a move on; the deal only runs from Aug. 26 through Sept. 8. The chain has not announced any plans to expand the promotion (yet).
